Corrections/Second Chance Per the administrations of both Waccamaw High School and Georgetown County School District:
"In order to improve student learning and increase mastery of state objectives, students will have the opportunity to make up half of the points missed on a major assessment by correcting errors on the original assessment and/or re-taking an assessment. The highest possible score a student can receive is an 85. This is to be completed by a date and time set forth by the teacher, and must be completed within the same nine week grading period. This policy does not apply to FuelEd classes in the Warrior Virtual Online Academy."
Therefore, students may correct errors on TESTS only if the grade is below 85%. Procedure is as follows.
Tests must be corrected within 15 school days of the grade being posted in Power School (**unless the quarter closes before the 15 days are up - then the student must correct it sooner**).
Students schedule a time to do corrections in presence of instructor OUTSIDE of classroom time (lunch, after school, during an elective from which they have the teacher's WRITTEN permission.)
No notebooks, notes, book, phones, etc. may be used.
Students may correct a test ONCE.
Students will receive ½ credit for each test item CORRECTED up to 85%. Incorrect second selections are not penalized, but do not count for additional credit.
Extra credit earned in review is not included in the 85 threshold.
**AGAIN: Tests are not eligible for corrections after the quarter in which they were assigned has passed, nor will a student be permitted to correct a test AFTER the 15 day period has elapsed.**
Extra Credit It is my opinion that if you complete all work accurately and on time in this class, as well as submitting projects to the rubric and correct all eligible tests, you will not need extra credit for a good grade.
I do, however, some extra credit points on a unit by unit basis in the following ways:
Participation in review activities
Extra FRQs on tests
Bonus questions on quizzes and tests
Additional components on projects.
Contributions to school wide service projects in exchange for homework passes or lowest quiz grades dropped.
Extent of such incentives, length of opportunity eligibility, and criteria for acquiring these incentives are determined by the teacher on a case by case basis. Student requests for "extra credit" are not accepted.
