Due dates for all assignments, tests, and projects are posted in the classroom, on the class website calendar, in Edmodo, and on a paper agenda distributed at the beginning of the unit of study. "I didn’t know it was due" IS NOT an excuse.
Late Penalties Due dates in this course are STRICTLY adhered to. Assignments
In-class and Online Assignments are penalized at the rate of 5 points per day, and weekends and school holidays do apply.
The late penalty deduction is equal to the point value of the assignment.
For example, an assigned unit Quizlet is worth 100 points and is due Sept 1. The student will have 20 days - 100 points divided by 5 pts per day - to turn the assignment in late for partial credit.
When the point value of the assignment is reached, the assignment will no longer be accepted. Electronic assignments will lock and paper assignments will be returned ungraded.
Late penalties will be assessed in addition to the quality of the work.
For example, if the student turns in said assignment in 10 days late and has only completed 50% of the work, they will still received no credit for work (Earned grade is 50 points, minus the 50 point penalty deduction is zero).
If an assignment's expiration date exceeds the close of a quarter, the student will NOT have time beyond the quarter to turn it in - it must be turned in by the final date established by the teacher, usually 2 school days prior to the close of quarter.
When the assignment is graded or inventoried, a missing assignment is assigned a zero in Power School. When the assignment is submitted, the grade will be adjusted according.
Extensions for assignments are possible if they have good cause or an unavoidable circumstance. Work, practice, games, “I fell asleep” or “I forgot” are NOT good causes or unavoidable circumstances.
Projects
If the student is not prepared to present and/or submit a project on the due date, it will be penalized at the rate of 20 points per day until it is submitted.
If the student absent on the day of a project and does not show an excused absence upon return, the late penalty will apply.
If an project's expiration date exceeds the close of a quarter, the student will NOT have time beyond the quarter to turn it in - it must be turned in by the final date established by the teacher, usually 2 school days prior to the close of quarter.
When the project is graded or inventoried, a missing project is assigned a 0 in Power School. When the assignment is submitted, the grade will be adjusted according.
Absences
It is the student’s responsibility to acquire and complete make up work within the time permitted.
Copies of handouts given in class will be kept in front of the class room or posted online. It is the students’ responsibility to check the folder and acquire their missed assignments, or down load them from my website site. I will not track a student down for missed work or to make up tests.
All in class lecture notes via will be posted on the class website. Again, IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to get the notes from online or a classmate in the event of your absence. Guided notes are an in class assignment, and using absence as a reason for failure to complete them is NOT acceptable. THE STUDENT WILL NEED THESE NOTES TO BE PREPARED FOR THE TEST.
STUDENTS MUST BE ABSENT AT LEAST THREE CONSECUTIVE CLASS PERIODS TO BE EXCUSED FROM A TEST. ALL MATERIALS ARE ONLINE AND THE STUDENT CAN PREPARE ADEQUATELY FROM HOME. NO EXCEPTIONS.
I do not permit test/quiz make up during instruction.
There are no late penalties for making up tests however, if the test is not made up within FIVE school days, the grade will be reduced to a 50% (lowest possible test grade with an attempt) until the student makes up the test and improves the grade as reminder of the gravity of not completing the test .
If a quiz is not map up within FIVE school days the grade will be reduced to a 0% (lowest possible quiz grade with an attempt) until the student makes up the quiz and improves the grade as reminder of the gravity of not completing the quiz . The student will take an alternate quiz (likely supplied response) so graded quizzes can be returned in a timely fashion.
If the test or quiz is not made up the final day designated day of makeup work for the end of the quarter, the grade will drop to a 0%, and neither the quiz nor the test will be eligible for make up or, in the case of the test, correction.
EXTENDED ABSENCES (4 days or more)/HOMEBOUND
Students with extended absences surrounding due dates are handled on a student-per-student basis…see me and we will work out a schedule.
Homebound students are held to the same standards as any student in the course, and must provide me with a working email address.
Work for the homebound student is available ONLINE and tests and quizzes will be emailed to the homebound instructor as they a distributed in class.
Work and tests are expected to be completed in a timely fashion and by the end of the quarter assigned.
Due to the nature of illness, late penalties will be waived.
Incomplete grades will not be issued; the recorded grade will appear on the report card and grades will be adjusted when work is completed.
